What is Helbreath Web?
Helbreath is a 2D isometric MMORPG from 2003 where two nations, Aresden and Elvine, fight for control of the world through open PvP, crusades and heldenian battles. Its original client and server were written in C++ for Windows and have long been abandoned. Helbreath Web is a complete port of the game to TypeScript: a Node.js server and a browser client (WebGL + WebSockets) that keep the classic gameplay, so you can play Helbreath online from any desktop browser.

How it was made
The original C++ server and client were read system by system and ported to TypeScript: the binary network protocol now travels over WebSockets, the original sprites, maps and sounds were converted for the web, and the game is rendered with WebGL. The server runs on Node.js behind Cloudflare. The bots run inside the server as real players, driven by a tactical AI whose parameters are tuned by simulated fights.
